Lovers of Kurt Vonnegut’s literary works will of course instantly recognize the
term Ice Nine (spelled by Vonnegut as ice-nine): it appears in the book Cat's Cradle
(1963), in which the author describes how a quantity of water immediately
freezes when one drop of ice-nine is added - even if it’s so hot outside that dogs chase cats walking.
Just try to imagine for a moment what it would mean if such a drop would fall into the Atlantic Ocean. Ice Nine Kills indeed!
