Tears for Fears

Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith from the classy South English resort of Bath form the hard core of this synth pop band.

Origins of Tears for Fears - The Primal Scream - Arthus Janov - 1977Their music and their actions express that they are deeply moved - just like John Lennon and Yoko Ono, incidentally - by the ideas of the American psychologist and psychotherapist Arthur Janov, the 'inventor' of the so-called primal therapy: a method of treatment with the patient repeatedly going back in his memories to relive the pain experienced as a child.

Janov wrote a book, entitled The Primal Scream: Primal Therapy, The Cure for Neurosis. In that book the principle of 'tears instead of fear' is revealed.
