Crazy Horse

Crazy Horse band name origins - Alleged photo of Thasunke WitkoThe careers of Neil Young and backing band Crazy Horse (Columbus, Georgia) are closely intertwined. The rockers of Crazy Horse have been running alongside Neil Young for as many as four decades - albeit with sometimes long interruptions and in varying formations. The band also recorded a handful of albums under their own name.

Thasúnke Witkó (translated: 'his horse is possessed’), better known as Crazy Horse (1840-1877), was the famous Chief of the Oglala Lakota Indians who violently but vainly rose up to the US Government, trying to preserve the ancient traditions and customs of his tribe for posterity. He died in captivity.

Active: 1969-present, USA
