G-Unit band name origins - Guerilla MarketingThe most famous member probably is 50 Cent (real name Curtis James Jackson III), the same who explained in an interview what the name G-Unit means: ‘You know what G-Unit stands for? Guerrilla Unit as in warfare, it’s military inspired. And the ‘G’ in G-Unit also stands for Gangsta, which is associated with 50 Cent.’

There are secondary sources that interpret G-Unit as Gorilla-Unit, but these have probably been put on the wrong track by 50 Cent’s clothing line, that does have labels with the name Gorilla-Unit on them.
