Started as The Triumphs and
later renamed The Mascots, the capacity in which the soul group from Canton,
Ohio drew the attention of one of America's most influential DJ’s: Eddie O'Jay
from Cleveland.Eddie gave The Mascots a push by giving them some airplay, a gesture the group would never forget: it led to a name change that will have pleased Eddie, because from then on The Mascots were called The O'Jays.
