Calexico - Also known as Mexicali

Alt-country and Americana band from Tucson, Arizona, the two founders of which were Joey Burns and John Convertino, active in Los Angeles, initially as members of the group Giant Sand.

The band name Calexico refers to a place located a hundred and fifty miles east of San Diego and stretched out over both American and Mexican territory. In the States the place is called Calexico (a contraction of California and Mexico), but funny enough in Mexico it’s called Mexicali (a combination of Mexico and California).

Active: 1996-present, USA
