Cameo - A side effect of tobacco

Cameo band name origins - Cameo cigarettesOccasionally things are a bit overdone: in the beginning of its career the New York based band Cameo consisted of no less than thirteen men, adept in the genres R&B, funk, soul, disco and electro.

In those early days the thirteen showed up under the name New York City Players, a title the band quickly had to give up because the (much more successful) funk band Ohio Players objected, fearing that the two bands would be mixed up.

Looking for a new name, the eyes of manager Larry Blackmon set on a billboard encouraging the smoking of Cameo cigarettes.
