Thompson Twins

Not a duo nor a band with one or more musicians named Thompson. No, the catchy synth pop producing Thompson Twins scrounged the name from the Tintin comics by Georges Prosper Remi, better known as Hergé.

Thompson Twins band name origins - Tintin - Thomson and ThompsonThe clumsy detective duo Thomson and Thompson that expertly makes matters worse in the Tintin stories has different names in different languages, such as Jansen en Jans(s)en (Dutch), Dupont et Dupond (in French) and Schulze und Schultze (German).

Also nice to know: Hergé in his turn was inspired by the detective duo Craig and Fry, that - including bowler hats - acts in Jules Verne's novel Les Tribulations d'un Chinois en Chine from 1879.

Active: 1977-1993, GBR
