Def Leppard - Listened to mom

Def Leppard band name history - Girl with leopard graffitiThere is every indication that the members of this rock band from Sheffield simply wanted to give the original band name - Deaf Leopard – its own unique marking by rendering it into Orwell’s newspeak, just like Led Zeppelin did with the word 'Lead'.

But another story would be so much nicer if it were true, and that is that in the early days of the band singer Joe Elliot told his mother that they had chosen The Leopards as their band name.

To which mum replied something like: 'If you guys keep on playing this loud, you will be a bunch of deaf leopards in no time.'
