
Stills and Furay had moved in with their producer Barry Friedman and saw a steamroller standing in front of his house, with on its side a sign saying that the behemoth was built by the Buffalo Springfield Roller Company of Springfield, Ohio. The rest is history.

According to Stephen Stills himself, their producer Barry Friedman had swiped the nameplate off the Buffalo Springfield steamroller that indeed was parked outside their apartment. The nameplate was hanging on the wall, and when the discussion came around to naming the band, they saw the nameplate and said, hey....
