Dead Kennedys

Hardcore punks from San Francisco, California.

The origin of their name seems obvious, with the murders in mind that ended the lives of two brothers from the Kennedy clan, John F. and Robert. Both these Kennedys – both politicians - were hit by bullets in 1963 and 1968 that came from one or more guns, respectively a .22 revolver.

Why the band name Dead Kennedys - One_US_dollar_1917But 'Dead Kennedys' can mean something different as well. In the world of slang dollar bills are referred to as Dead Presidents, because the American banknotes have portraits of deceased presidents printed on them. An example: 'Alright dude, now how many dead presidents do I owe you for these?'

Active: 1978-1986; 2001-2008, USA
