Megadeth band name idea - Herman Kahn - On thermonulear war boekAmerican brute force band from Los Angeles, California, dealing in heavy metal, thrash metal, hard rock and speed metal; a blessing for aspirin manufacturers.

Note the spelling: with an 'a' (megadeath) the name would have referred to a million deaths, for example by introducing an atomic bomb or a Megadeth concert to a major city.

The term was coined by Herman Kahn, who used it for the first time in his doom book On Thermonuclear War.

There is a small chance that members of Megadeth have scrounged the name from Sigma 6, an English band that took on different names all the time (in the end they became Pink Floyd), one of which was The Megadeaths.

Active: 1983-2002; 2004-present, USA
