A Wilhelm Scream

A Wilhelm Scream name meaning - Wilhelm - The Charge at Feather RiverSometimes the name of this melodic hardcore band from New Bedford, Massachusetts is abbreviated to AWS, at other times the formation is referred to as Wilhelm or as The Scream.

The Wilhelm Scream is a famous sound effect in the collection of the Warner Bros movie company. The effect was first used in the film Distant Drums (1951). At that time giving the effect a specific name was not considered; that changed after the Western 'The Charge at Feather River' had been released in 1953, in which soldier Wilhelm plays a part. Wilhelm is hit by an arrow, and he lets out a harrowing cry: the Wilhelm Scream.

The Wilhelm Scream has been used very successfully in many movies ever since.
