
The surroundings where in the beginning the group's talents had full play – the overcrowded, dark and damp Downbeat Club in Newcastle – gave the impression of a group of caged wild animals at display.
In combination with the raw sound the men produced, this soon resulted in the apt nickname given to them by the audience, which in the end would become the band name: The Animals.
