Asleep at the Wheel

Country & Western swing band that was formed in Paw Paw, West Virginia, but that currently expands its activities from the musically more favourable environment of Austin, Texas. Until now worth nine Grammy Awards, that says enough.

How Asleep at the Wheel got their name - Car in wallLucky Oceans (real name Reuben Gosfield), once Asleep at the Wheel's pedal steel guitarist, thought up the band name, after a different suggestion (Ray Benson and his Laughing Cowboys) had been rejected.

The band was constantly and exhaustingly on tour and that caused the fear so aptly expressed in the name the band chose in the end.

Active: 1970-present, USA
