The band name is supposed to have come about by putting a number of notes into a hat on which the band members had written single words, and then taking them out again one by one, after which the notes were shuffled until three words remained.
James is thought to refer to an ex-band member, Harvest to their stay in a barn and Barclay to the bank by that name, the objective clearly being to get rich fast.
A beautiful and remarkable story, but isn't it just as beautiful and remarkable that all three words are the names of record labels?
