What Pogues stabds for - censorshipCeltic rock and punk oriented group with Shane MacGowan - the patient of practically any dentist's dreams - as frontman. Despite their Irish roots Kings Cross London is mentioned as the birthplace of The Pogues.

Initially it was Pogue Mahone, but that name was shortened by order of the prudish BBC (that understood Pogue Mahone as an anglicized version of the Scottish-Gaelic phrase póg mo thóin, meaning kiss my ass).

It is remarkable that later The Pogues, once they had reached star status, did not have the balls to return to their original band name.
