The band name was probably intended to shock, but that did not work for the Pussy Galore who starred in the James Bond film Goldfinger either.
The writer of the James Bond novels, Ian Fleming, was looking for an ambiguous name for the traditional Bond girl: Pussy can mean 'kitten' and also 'pussy'. These are not necessarily the same things. And galore means lots of it.
The following dialog from the film Goldfinger helps us to gain a better insight: James Bond (waking up on a divan): 'Who are you?' Pussy Galore: 'My name is Pussy Galore.' James Bond: 'I must be dreaming.'
