Scritti Politti - Lets write

Who gave Scritti Politti their band name - Marxist Antonio GramsciBritish new wave band and synth funk formation from Leeds, Yorkshire, England. The literal translation of the Italian phrase scritti politici (after which the band was called) is 'political writings'.

Singer Green Gartside - the only constant factor the band could rely on in the thirty-five years of its existence - wanted to pay tribute to the Italian Marxist Antonio Gramsci (1891-1937), an enthusiastic producer of political writings.

Another band whose members are great admirers of Antonio Gramsci is the synth pop band Gramsci Melodic from Pittsburgh.

Active: 1977-present, GBR
