Shoes (USA) - Lennon/McCartney

Zion, Illinois is where the brothers John and Jeff Murphy made their first steps, founders of American power pop band The Shoes.

It was the bassist, John, who came up with the band name. He had to fall back on the year 1964, more precisely on the 10th of February of that year. That is when the Beatles - for the first time on tour in America - gave a press conference in the famous Plaza Hotel in New York.

John Lennon: ‘It's just that it means Beatles, isn't it, you know? That's just a name, like “shoe.”'.

Paul McCartney: “The Shoes.” See, we could've been called “The Shoes”, for all you know.'
