Rock band that once enjoyed a wave of fame reminiscent of The Beatles.
Various stories circulate about the band name. Originally from cold Scotland, the Rollers are said to have fallen in love at first sight with San Francisco during a stay in the 'bay city'. Impressed as much by Frisco as by the fluid zigzagging of the roller skaters ('rollers'), they arrived at Bay City Rollers.
Wendy-Ann Antanaitis however, married to band member Ian Mitchell, says a random spot on the map of the USA was picked. On the map the word 'rollers' was written to indicate the surge of Lake Michigan. It is rumoured that the Rollers first picked the name of another town (in Arkansas), but turned round and made a second attempt.
