Boomtown Rats

Where band name Boomtown Rats comes from - Woody Guthrie - Bound for GloryRock band from Irish DĂșn Laoghaire, a formation that, with the exception of Mondays, had its best days between 1977 and 1980, under the inspiring leadership of Bob (later Sir Robert) Geldof.

The first performance took place on 31 October 1975 by the name The Nightlife Thugs. Halfway through the gig the band changed its name to Boomtown Rats.

They did not think up the name themselves, it comes from the autobiography of American protest singer Woody Guthrie, Bound For Glory.
