Alternative rock band from Los Angeles, California, with - in the first period of its existence - singer/songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Lowell George as its most outstanding member.
Before 1969 George played in Frank Zappa's The Mothers of Invention and the drummer of that band, Jimmy Carl Black, is said to have once made a comment about the small size of Lowell's shoes. The remark came in handy when George went to stand on his own feet.
As a kind of wink to the Beatles the word feet in the band name was changed to feat.
