Not the presence of well-educated, seasoned multi-instrumentalists nor the fact that the group delivered complex and carefully crafted compositions could prevent that the Gentle Giant had to give up after a decade.
Gentle giants come in all shapes and sizes, but it seems certain that the band members were adepts of the works of François Rabelais, creator of the characters Gargantua and Pantagruel, two giants - father and son, to be exact – both of whose life stories were described by Rabelais in five substantial volumes. Apparently several Gentle Giant songs are loosely inspired by the work of the French author.
