Alternative rock band from Rhyl (Wales) and Manchester (England) that in 1980 was called Alarm Alarm.
The name was ridiculed by celebrated disc jockey John Peel, who during a radio show must have said something like: 'We already had Duran Duran and Talk Talk, and now we also have Alarm Alarm. I think I will call myself John Peel John Peel from now on.'
That remark made the band listening to the broadcast sit up. It also made them decide to switch off one of their alarms, after which they went through life as merely The Alarm.
