Fanny - Funny

What band name Fanny stands for - Fanny LP cover - 1970One of the very first all-woman bands and (after Goldie & The Gingerbreads) the second female band that managed to land a contract with one of the major labels. Greatly admired by - among others - David Bowie.

As fanny is another word for butt, the long-haired ladies stood with their backs to the photographer on their first LP cover, making it easy to mistake them for Status Quo.

They made their name stand out in more amusing ways: to promote that first album stickers were printed with slogans such as 'Get behind FANNY' and 'FANNY: end of an era'.

Active: 1970-1975; 2007, USA
