The trio was nameless for a long time until their audience started asking for a name. According to the singer, aptly named Gary LeVox, someone from the audience came to him; the man told him that in his youth he had had a band called Rascal Flatts, and that name was now available. The trio fell in with the idea.
Remarkably there is a giant junkyard in Salisbury, Montana with only wrecks of Four Wheel Drive Trucks called Rascal Flats (with one 't') - could that have anything to do with it?
