That this band comes from Texas (from Houston, to be exact) is evident looking at that TX. But the pop punk band was not always known by that name: it started as RiverFenix, a clear reference to the tragic character River Jude Phoenix (1970-1993).Phoenix - a promising young actor - passed away on the morning of Halloween 1993 due to a drug overdose at the age of 23. When the band RiverFenix started to get success, the Phoenix family started to stir and Houston had a problem. Resulting in a name change.
