Residents - Serendipitous deliveries

How the Residents got their band name - mailmanNot so much a band but more a collective of musical artists that must be held responsible for a lot (and we mean really a lot) of avant-garde music and multimedia projects. More than sixty albums, countless music videos, short films, CD-ROMs and DVDs the collective has to its name.

The group of artists from Shreveport, Louisiana sent a demo tape to record company Warner Bros in 1971. Because the senders had left an address but not their names, Warner addressed a reply to The Residents.

The artists saw this as an omen and called their first collective The Residents Uncorporated, later reduced to The Residents.

Active: 1966; 1969-present, USA
