
The band name is borrowed from the title of a short story by William Faulkner. The author wrote it in six weeks while he had a job at a power station. A 'tour de force' according to Faulkner.
With regards to the title: Faulkner in his turn took it from Book XI of Homer's Odyssey, in which Agamemnon says to Odysseus (in the English translation that we used as source):
'As I lay dying, the woman with the dog's eyes would not close my eyes as I descended into Hades.'
