Brian Jonestown Massacre

Explanation of band name Brian Jonestown Massacre - Brian Jones - Rolling StonesNeo-psychedelic band from San Francisco, California that is known for 'creative reuse'. Formulated more gravely: Brian Jonestown Massacre is 'influenced by the post-modernist technique or pastiche and the re-contextualization or images'.

Granted, but it's the easy way out. Seriously: in practice this means that entirely unrelated facts are being linked inextricably to each another.

The group name is a good example: here we find welded together the name of tragically perished Rolling Stones member Brian Jones and a collective suicide session known as the Jonestown Massacre.

The (long) band name seems to have been chosen mainly in order to break with the common practice of the late eighties and early nineties to give bands ultra short names (such as Blur, Loop en Ride).
