Black metal, ambient, myths, folklore, odalism (a philosophy based on the organic relation between blood and soil - yuck) and philosophy - these are just a few concepts associated with this Norwegian band.
The word burzum, it means as much as 'darkness', comes from the so-called Black Language, a fictional language that J. R. Tolkien introduces in his Lord of the Rings.
The word is used in the inscription engraved into the One Ring, also fictional, described by Tolkien as the most important of the Rings of Power.
The ring's inscription simply reads Ash nazg durbatulúk, ash nazg gimbatul, ash nazg thrakatulûk agh burzum-ishi krimpatul ( 'One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.').
