Johnny Hates Jazz

Why band name Johnny Hates Jazz - Somethin Jazz Club, NYC'Sofisti-pop' is the label one may put on the music of Johnny Hates Jazz.

The London band has one American in its ranks, bassist Mike Nocito.

When choosing a band name grateful use was made of the fact that Mike's sister, Lisa Nocito, was married to the brother of songwriter/producer Phil Thornalley (the latter at one point also part of the lineup of Johnny Hates Jazz).

Lisa drove her husband, John, to distraction by playing jazz all day, exactly the genre John could not bear to hear.

Active: 1986-1992; 2009-present, GBR

It's a line in a Cliff Richard movie I am certain.
Either The young ones or Summer Holiday.

The group’s name refers to Datchler’s brother-in-law, Johnny, a British farmer married to Datchler’s sister, who loves jazz. But Johnny hates jazz. “We came up with the name while visiting them,” said Hayes. “We liked the name and planned to use it on something . It turned out we used it for a group.”
