Mugwumps

The career of The Mugwumps was ultra short and the musical output of this New York band was proportional: only nine songs were available for their only album (a compilation LP).

And yet they played an important role in the history of pop music, because four of the five members would soon gain world fame.

The duo Cass Elliot and Denny Doherty later accounted for half of The Mamas & The Papas, while John B. Sebastian and Zal Yanovsky ended up in The Lovin' Spoonful.

To find their band name The Mugwumps consulted a novel by William S. Burroughs, The Naked Lunch, in which strange creatures called Mugwumps (a kind of predators) are expressively described.
